COURSE INFORMATION

Although  this course has yet to build a presence in Algarve golf to equal its prestigious neighbour at Penina it has no less a worthy pedigree. Penina was founded and  developed by the Stilwell family. When they sold the Penina complex they moved on to develop the project that they had already prepared.. Alto Club.
The great name in Algarve golf and indeed a great name in world golf was the one time open champion Sir Henry Cotton. From the 1960s to his death Cotton lived on the Penina estate in one of the many fine villas. It was from his drawing board that Alto came and many believe that it benefited greatly from the degree of attention that his proximity permitted.

Penina was built into the ground floor of Algarve golf. A time when there were far fewer courses on this coast and many less worldwide. It may be harder for Alto golf to carve itself a name in a much larger tree, but all who play the course know that this is quality golf.

The course is situated a little way inland from Praia du Vau, a beach midway between Alvor and Praia da Rocha. There is also signposted access from the Alvor / Portimao road.
